Home: Welcome

Hi, my name is Alison, welcome to my practice.

About Me

I have been in the Mental Health field as a Psychotherapist for over two decades.  I've worked with all age groups from kindergarten to adults and everyone in between.  I've provided therapy in schools, clinics and in private practice.  I have experience in individual, couple, child and group therapy.  Currently in my private practice I provide therapy to individuals and couples.  I provide medium and long term Psychodynamic Psychotherapy which addresses not just reducing symptoms but uncovers the root of destructive patterns or behaviours.  Psychodynamic therapy explores the unconscious which is always operating in the background and even the most self aware people engage in unconscious patterns that can get the better of us.  I work in a collaborative way and while the process of therapy is often very difficult, I work to create a safe, trusted space for people.  Yes, therapy and change can be difficult and takes time, but along the way are amazing moments of insight, subtle but powerful changes and some laughs.  I truly believe in this work and am passionate about it.  I have seen people make amazing and lasting change and growth, paticularly in experience their life in a fuller, freer and more embodied way.  In my free time I have studied dance for 20 years which has given me a deeper appreciation for the connection of mind and body and the importance of experiencing life in an embodied way.

I have a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology from Santa Clara University in California and  I have a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Rowan University in New Jersey.  I graduated with honours from both universities.  I am a member of the Psychotherapy and Counsellors Federation of Australia. I am also a member and on the committee  of the International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.  I now have provide therapy and counselling in Sydney.  My practice is located in Glebe in the Inner West of Sydney.

Services

Mount Fuji

Individual and Couples Therapy
I offer Psychodynamic therapy based on the needs of each client.  This means I explore with them the root of their problems which includes exploring the conscious and unconscious mind to help provide insight and understanding before moving forward with them to create a life that is meaningful and fulfilling for them.  For couples I also use a Psychodynamic foundation and the Gottman method.  More information is available on the Therapy Services page.

Self Development Programs
If you want to do time bound, focused inner work or are not sure you want to start or commit to longer term therapy, I also offer self development programs.  These weave a foundation of psychodynamic principles, but with a blend of psycho-education, exercises and tools.   More information is available on the Self Development Programs page.
